From routine wellness exams to chronic disease management, our experienced doctors and nurse practitioners are here to serve you and your family. We take pride in being part of the Richmond/Henrico community since 19XX. Our Glen Allen office is conveniently located off Staples Mill Road and open Monday–Friday with same-day sick visits. Whether you need a children’s checkup before the new school year or help managing high blood pressure, our team is ready to help. Comprehensive Primary Care Services
We offer a full range of primary care services to keep you healthy at every stage of life:
- Preventive Health: Annual physical exams, vaccinations (flu, pneumonia, shingles), and screening tests (mammograms, colonoscopy referrals, pap smears). Routine check-ups can catch issues early. For example, patients with a usual source of care are more likely to receive recommended screenings like blood pressure checks and cancer tests.
- Adult & Senior Care: Monitoring and managing chronic conditions (diabetes, heart disease, asthma, arthritis, etc.). We help you control blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Our physicians coordinate care with specialists when needed. Regular primary care visits have been shown to improve outcomes and lower healthcare costs compared to seeing only specialists.
- Child & Adolescent Care: Well-child exams, developmental screenings, and immunizations for infants through teens. We adhere to the Virginia vaccine schedule and AAFP guidelines to keep children protected. (Local health officials recently reported multiple measles cases, underlining the importance of staying up-to-date on shots.) We also provide school sports and camp physicals.
- Women’s Health: Preventive gynecology (pap smears, birth control counseling), bone density scans, and pregnancy planning support. Our providers discuss hormone health and screen for conditions like osteoporosis.
- Men’s Health: Screenings for prostate issues, discussions about heart health, weight management, and lifestyle coaching. We emphasize smoking cessation and alcohol moderation as part of preventive care.
- On-site Services: We have an in-house lab for common tests (lipid panel, glucose, COVID/flu/ strep testing) for quick results. Minor procedures (wound care, joint injections, skin biopsies) can often be done in our exam rooms to avoid ER visits.
For any new issue (fever, infection, minor injuries), we offer same-day appointments whenever possible. If your condition is urgent, our providers are also available via our telemedicine portal for virtual visits. You can trust us to coordinate your care — if specialized treatment is required, we help refer you to cardiologists, orthopedists, or other specialists.
Our family physicians provide patient-centered care: they manage most health problems and know when to bring in a specialist. They are trained in prevention and chronic disease management, keeping your whole family healthy. By providing a continuous partnership over the years, your doctor will know your medical history and tailor care to you.
Preventive Health & Wellness
Prevention is a cornerstone of family medicine. We encourage all patients to schedule annual wellness visits. For adults, this includes routine bloodwork, vaccines, and age-appropriate screenings (colon cancer, mammograms, cholesterol). Seniors benefit greatly from yearly physicals, which can identify early signs of stroke or heart disease.
“Spring is a great time for your child to see their primary care provider for a wellness visit,” says the Richmond Health District. During these visits, children receive school-required immunizations and physicals. (In fact, Virginia law mandates vaccinations for daycare and school entry.) We administer flu, MMR, HPV, Tdap, and other vaccines according to CDC and AAP schedules, all at no extra cost for insured patients.
Nutrition counseling, exercise plans, and smoking cessation support are also part of our preventive care. Our clinic partners with the VDH and offers resources on healthy habits. The CDC notes that having “a usual source of care” leads to higher vaccination rates and blood pressure control. By visiting us regularly, you make sure nothing important slips through the cracks.
Managing Chronic Conditions
Living with a chronic illness can be challenging. Our team works closely with you to manage conditions like diabetes, hypertension, asthma, arthritis, and obesity. We create customized treatment plans, coordinate medications, and monitor your progress. For example:
– Diabetes Management: Routine A1c checks, eye and foot exams, and referrals to nutritionists as needed. We help prevent complications like kidney disease by aggressive control of blood sugar.
– Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): We provide blood pressure checks at every visit and adjust therapy to hit target levels, reducing risk of stroke and heart attack.
– High Cholesterol: Patients may be started on diet/medication regimens. We educate on heart-healthy eating and exercise.
– Asthma/COPD: Inhaler technique reviews, trigger avoidance, and pulmonary rehab referrals improve breathing.
Many patients managing several conditions see their family doctor as the hub of their healthcare. We communicate with labs, imaging centers, and specialists so you don’t have to coordinate care yourself. Studies show continuity in primary care leads to better health outcomes and lower costs. If you’re new to the area or looking for a healthcare “home,” our clinic is ready to welcome you.
Meet Our Glen Allen Medical Team
Our care team includes board-certified family physicians, experienced nurse practitioners, and caring support staff. They live and work in our community. For example: Dr. Helen Adams, a family medicine doctor, has served Glen Allen families since 2005. Truc Lieng, MD, is a North Carolina transplant who values patient education. Nurse Practitioner Lisa Merillat focuses on chronic disease coaching. (See our full Providers page for details on each clinician.)
Each provider brings specialized expertise (geriatrics, pediatrics, women’s health) but all share one goal: keeping you well. They believe in listening – “Your personal primary care physician will coordinate all aspects of your medical care,” as our parent practice notes. We also have an on-site dietitian and RN on staff. You’re never just a chart number here; we take time to answer questions and partner in your health journey.
◆ Comprehensive Child Care: Dr. Ehtesh Mustafa, a pediatric specialist, is dedicated to infants and toddlers. He ensures newborns get thorough newborn exams and parents get guidance on feeding and development.
◆ Women’s Health Expertise: Dr. Liz Merillat, FNP, specializes in women’s wellness and family planning. She provides routine Pap tests, menopausal care, and collaborates with OB/GYNs for prenatal needs.
We also speak multiple languages to serve diverse patients (e.g. Spanish, Hindi). Our friendly staff can schedule translations if needed. Across all ages, our team emphasizes preventive care and the patient’s comfort during every visit.
