Post-Treatment Dental Care Instructions
At Dr. Sayyar’s Dental Clinic, your oral health is our priority—even after you leave the office. Following the correct after-care instructions is essential for proper healing, long-term success, and minimizing complications.
Local Anesthesia Care
If you received local anesthetic during your treatment, avoid eating or drinking hot foods and beverages until the numbness has completely worn off. This helps prevent accidental burns or biting your cheek, tongue, or lips.
Gum Sensitivity After Treatment
Mild gum tenderness is common after dental procedures. To ease discomfort and reduce swelling, you may take over-the-counter pain relievers such as Ibuprofen (Advil), Acetaminophen (Tylenol), or Naproxen (Aleve). Generic brands are perfectly acceptable.
For additional relief
- Rinse gently with warm salt water (1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water) 2–3 times/day.
- Use topical anesthetics like Orajel if needed for localized numbing.
General Discomfort & Sensitivity
It’s normal to experience mild sensitivity to temperature, sweets, or pressure—especially around temporary crowns, fillings, and recent restorations.
You may
- Brush and floss normally unless advised otherwise.
- Eat soft foods if you’re experiencing discomfort.
- Most symptoms subside within a few days to a couple of weeks.
