POST-TREATMENT CARE

Cosmetic Dental Aftercare Instructions

Adjusting to your new smile may take a few days. Changes in your bite or tooth position are normal, and your brain will gradually adapt to these improvements.

Comfort & Bite Stain Prevention Long-Term Protection

What to Expect After Your Procedure

  • If you notice discomfort, pressure points, or your bite feels uneven, contact our office to schedule a bite adjustment.
  • Mild changes in speech may occur temporarily but usually normalize quickly.
  • Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold is common due to the removal of tooth structure and typically resolves within a few days to a couple of weeks.
  • Minor gum irritation or soreness is normal—rinse with warm salt water 2–3 times/day to soothe and promote healing.
  • If you received local anesthetic, avoid hot foods/drinks until numbness wears off to prevent burns or accidental biting.
✅ Good to Know
Most symptoms improve as your mouth adjusts. If anything feels “off,” we’re happy to help.

Common Sources of Discomfort

  • The injection site may show slight bruising or swelling—temporary like a normal bruise.
  • Use OTC anti-inflammatory medication (ibuprofen or naproxen) as recommended for pain/swelling.
  • Jaw soreness can occur from keeping your mouth open—use an ice pack or warm compress and avoid tough foods until it improves.
  • Extra saliva for a few days is a normal response and usually resolves within a week.
💡 Tip
Stick to softer foods for the first couple of days if you feel pressure or tenderness.

Caring for Your New Smile

  • Brush and floss daily to protect veneers, crowns, or bonding and prevent plaque buildup—this supports long-term results.
  • Continue regular professional cleanings and exams so we can monitor your restorations and oral health.
🚫

What to Avoid

  • Hard foods: ice, nuts, hard candies, caramel, frozen chocolate bars, apples.
  • Using your teeth as tools (opening packages, pulling tags, holding objects).
  • Chewing pens, pencils, fingernails, or non-food items.
⚠️ Note
Damage caused by misuse (chipping or fracturing veneers/crowns) may void any warranty offered by our lab.

Foods & Drinks That Stain

Coffee, tea, red wine, and berries can stain restorations just like natural teeth. Try these habits to reduce staining:

  • Use a straw whenever possible.
  • Rinse or brush after stain-causing foods/drinks.
  • Use a whitening mouthwash as part of your daily routine.
  • Tobacco is especially damaging—avoid smoking for health and cosmetic reasons.
🌙

Night Guards & Protection

  • We strongly recommend a custom night guard to prevent damage from grinding or clenching during sleep.
  • If one was included, wear it as directed. If not, we can easily make one for you.
  • For active individuals, we offer custom sports mouthguards for protection during physical activity.
